It has always been strongly speculated whether homeopathy, a form of alternative medicine, has an actual affect apart of the placebo affect on patients.
Homeopathy was created just over 200 years ago by a German doctor called Samuel Hahneman and is based on the principle ‘like cures like´ (similia similibus curentur). This means that, according to homeopaths, the same source that causes the illness can be used to remove the symptoms and cure.
Water plays a very important role in homeopathy. In order to produce the medicine, either in the form of tablets or solutions, the healing substance is diluted over again with water. This process and succession known as potentization, is repeated until there is a 1:10000 ratio or even more. The claim is that the further diluted that the substance is, the more affective it is. They do this because it is said that water has a sort of memory that remembers what it used to contain in a larger amount and therefore it still has the same properties after it has been diluted so many times.
This theory is very sketchy and many people do not believe in it and even mock it. There is also not a lot of evidence that can prove that homeopathy is a functioning therapy option. People against homeopathy say that it is merely a case of a placebo affect. The patients get better because they think that the medicine will help them and only feel better cause they are so convinced that the medicine works.
Another reason why people often judge homeopathy is because they relate it with things such as crystal healing, horoscopes and other such claims. This is only an unfair stereotype though; homeopaths do not necessarily believe nor practice these methods.
Despite all these negative assumptions about homeopathy, I myself believe in its use since I have never taken any antibiotics. Instead I have used homeopathic and other natural remedies even when I was suffering under more serious illness. I also must say that I am not a victim of the placebo affect because I am very serious about any type of substance that is supposed to have an affect on you. For that reason, I must objectively say that homeopathy has worked for me. As proof I have myself since I am a pretty healthy person that has rarely suffered greatly of any illness.
Homeopathy is very good compared to antibiotics in terms of secondary affects. Being natural, homeopathy is much less violent compared to antibiotics and does not interfere with ones good bacteria.
As I have mentioned before, many people say that homeopathy is simply a scam and that homeopaths simply want to rip one off. This may be true but it is still not a good argument against homeopathy to support traditional pharmaceutical companies. Given the fact that these spend an enormous amount more of capital in marketing their products than actually investing I research. So they basically are just making a business out of it too, if one were to say that that is the case for homeopathy.
In conclusion I definitely think that homeopathy should be available at the NHS for those who choose to use homeopathic curing methods. Homeopathy may not be able to be the only way to cure people. In very severe cases we often don’t have any other option than recruiting to antibiotics. But one should not abuse the use of antibiotics since are bodies can get immune to them and cause them not to have a full affect on us when we desperately need them to do so. Therefore homeopathic medicines are a good alternative to antibiotics and should be used in cases where antibiotics can be avoided. This is why I believe that homeopathic medicine should be available at the NHS, so that people can have a safer, promising and natural alternative when it comes to taking drugs.
